Search Engine Optimization (SEO) aims to improve the ranking of a website in search engine results and is the mainstay of search engine and internet marketing promotion.

Search engines display different kinds of listings in the search engine results including cost-per-click advertisements (such as adwords), paid listings, and natural search results. SEO is concerned with improving the number and position of a website's natural search results for a variety of keywords which are relevant to the organisation. SEO techniques may increase the number and quality of visitors and is sometimes offered as a seperate service, or as part of a larger internet marketing campaign. It can often be very effective when incorporated into the initial development and website design.
